Captain David Tefft


Captain David Tefft began his journey in the Massachusetts Fire Service at an early age. In 1993 he joined his local Fire Explorer Post sponsored by the Sutton Fire Department. For the next 4 years he attended regular trainings and was taught the basics of firefighting and first aid. After graduating from Saint John’s High School and turning 18, he became an on-call member of the Sutton Fire Department.

The following summer Captain Tefft obtained his EMT-Basic certification and beginning that fall attended college at the University of New Haven, graduating with a BS in Fire Investigation. In 2003 he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a career firefighter and was hired as a full time Firefighter/EMT with the Auburn Fire Rescue Department. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and in 2005 completed his Advanced Life Support training and was certified as a Paramedic. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009 and then Captain in 2011. He is a certified Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I and has completed training as a Fire Officer II.

Currently Captain Tefft proudly serves Group 1 as their shift commander, is a member of Auburn’s Fire Investigation Unit and is a Public Safety Diver on the District 7 Regional Dive Team.
