Deputy Chief Glenn Johnson

Deputy Chief Johnson is a 24 year veteran of the Massachusetts fire service.

He began his career as a call firefighter in the Town of Auburn in 1994 and was appointed as a full-time firefighter in 2000. In 2004 he was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain in 2011 and Assistant Chief in 2014. On May 6, 2017 he was sworn in as the Deputy Fire Chief of operations. As a Lieutenant he was the Shift Commander of Group 4 until he was promoted to Deputy Chief.

From 2000-2014 Deputy Chief Johnson oversaw the Public Education Division and was the lead educator for fire education within the Town of Auburn. He is the creator of the Auburn Fire Rescue Department’s website, press blog and manages the department’s reporting software database for both fire and EMS. Deputy Chief Johnson serves as the departments Public Information Officer and is in charge of the department’s Bureau of Professional Standards. He is an active member in the Massachusetts Fire District 7 Mutual Aid Association and holds a multitude of certifications and training certificates in fire related classes.

In 2001 Deputy Chief Johnson graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Career Recruit Program at the top of his class earning the Richard N. Bangs Award for Outstanding Student in the graduating class. He is also a graduate of the UMASS Donahue Institutes Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program, holds a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a master’s degree in public administration from Anna Maria College. For his heroic measures during a structure fire which aided in the rescue of a firefighter, Deputy Chief Johnson was given the Medal of Bravery on February 14, 2013.
